Hallenbeagle planning proposal

Developing new facilities for Cornwall’s household waste and recycling

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK is bringing forward plans for modern, purpose-built recycling and waste management facilities for Cornwall on vacant industrial land at the Cornwall Business Park, near Scorrier Junction.

We are planning to build new facilities to sort and handle Cornwall’s household waste and recycling on behalf of Cornwall Council.

The development will support Cornwall’s new household waste and recycling collection service that will allow residents to recycle their food waste and that aims to increase the county’s recycling rate. The facilities will also accept some waste and recycling from local businesses.

The new facilities will replace the current operations at Wilson Way, Pool.

A bit about us

We employ over 5,500 people in the UK and around 240 people in Cornwall.

Our teams are working every day at our sites around the county to recycle Cornwall’s household waste and recover energy from the waste that can’t be recycled.

We recognise our responsibilities to our neighbours, the environment and the local community. As a result, we work through our people, planet, profit approach and have in-house teams specialising in environmental compliance and community relations.

The site

Hallenbeagle development siteThe development site is on a vacant plot in the Cornwall Business Park to the east of the A30 near the Scorrier Junction. Allocated for industrial development and warehousing, planning permission has previously been granted for waste management facilities on the site

Our plans

We are preparing to submit plans for facilities that will include:

  • A single, enclosed processing building housing:
    • a materials recycling facility to sort and bale recyclable materials – such as paper, card,
      plastics and cans.
    • a transfer station where collection trucks will tip their loads of general waste (mainly black bag waste) and food waste, which will be stored for a short time before being bulked on to larger lorries and taken for processing.
  • Covered storage for baled recyclable materials.
  • An office building.
  • Parking for a fleet of trucks that collect waste and recycling from local businesses.

Ahead of submitting a planning application, we are hosting two drop-in sessions for people in the local community interested in our plans, where information will be on display and members of our team will be on hand to answer questions.
