Wetsuit re-use in Cornwall

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK and Cornwall Council have launched an initiative to give pre-loved wetsuits and neoprene items a second life in partnership with Cornwall based social enterprise, The Wave Project.

380 tonnes
of wetsuits are estimated to be thrown away each year and end up in energy recovery or landfill in the UK

It is estimated that on average 380 tonnes of wetsuits are thrown away each year and end up in energy recovery or landfill in the UK.

SUEZ, Cornwall Council and The Wave Project have partnered together to trial to collect pre-loved and damaged wetsuits at our Household Waste Recycling Centres where there are dedicated bins in place ready to collect any unwanted items.

You can find these bins at all our HWRC sites across Cornwall!

Donated items are taken by the Wave Project to their Headquarters in Newquay where they are cleaned and repaired before being sold at affordable prices at their local shop on Newquay High Street. Items that cannot be repaired are recycled into new items such as pencil cases and bags.
