A new re-use shop for St Blazey
Six months after beginning a tweet conversation with SUEZ recycling and recovery UK’s Chief Executive Officer, David Palmer-Jones, Councillor Pauline Giles opened the doors of the new St Blazey Recycle, Reuse and Resale Community Interest Company.
The shop will collect household items from the SUEZ operated household waste recycling centre at St. Austell, putting them back into use through resale or donation to families and individuals in need.
David Palmer-Jones and John Scanlon, Chief Operating Officer for SUEZ, drove to the opening event in a box van (pictured) which was then donated to the shop, allowing for wider collections and distribution. Cllr Giles has plans to expand across Cornwall, reaching more people and salvaging more used items from disposal.
The shop has proved popular and will soon open a café on site, allowing visitors to enjoy a coffee or tea while browsing the wares and, eventually, acting as a food pantry for neighbours in need. If you’d like to volunteer or have items to donate, contact Councillor Giles directly at pauline.giles@cornwallcouncillors.org.uk.
