Falmouth and Penryn get its own Reuse shop
SUEZ recycling and recovery UK is excited to announce the opening of its third Reuse shop, located at Falmouth and Penryn’s household waste recycling centre in partnership with Cornwall Council. This new initiative aims to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and provide community members with affordable options for used items.
The grand opening celebration took place on Wednesday 29 January 2025 featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the Kernow Reuse shop and opportunities for community members to learn more about sustainable living practices.
“Our new reuse shop represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability and waste reduction,” said Rebecca Parry, Renew Manager for Cornwall. “Through our shops we hope to create a space for the community to shop sustainably whilst fostering a culture of reuse and recycling benefitting everyone.”
The reuse shop will offer a wide variety of pre-owned goods, including furniture, household items, and much more, all at affordable prices.
Councillor Carol Mould, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, said: “We are proud to be supporting this exciting initiative. By shopping at the Kernow Reuse shops, not only will you be able to save money, but you are also helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. We hope to provide Reuse shops at all our Household Waste Recycling Centres across Cornwall. It’s a win-win for both the environment and our residents.”
The new reuse shop is part of SUEZ’s broader initiative to create a circular economy, where resources are reused and recycled rather than disposed of. The company’s first two reuse shops in St Austell and Truro have seen great success, pushing thousands of tonnes of waste up the waste hierarchy and providing affordable options for local residents.
