Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre – Operational update (October 2024)

The annual planned shutdown of the Cornwall energy recovery centre (CERC) to allow for routine inspections and maintenance of the plant is underway and in line with our phased approach, we are in the process of bringing line two back into service. This will be followed by line one in late October.

As we re-start each line, low pressure steam is released through the roof vents during the re-start process, which may be visible.

Once the facility is back to full operation and producing the required steam quality, the turbine will be restarted to allow electricity to be exported again.

When the turbine is restarted there is a further potential for steam to be released. As such, people in the local area may see steam coming from the facility at intervals accompanied by low level noise as the steam is released. In advance of this we will send you a further update to forewarn you of the potential for some minor disturbance.
