Cornwall Residents Help Kernow Reuse Reach Major Reuse Milestones
Cornwall residents have helped give more than 167,000 household items a second life through Kernow Reuse, saving over 1,000 tonnes of reusable goods from disposal while helping local families access affordable household items. The celebration was held at the official opening of the Connon Bridge shop.
The milestone coincides with the opening of Cornwall’s 10th Kernow Reuse shop at Newquay Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), operated by SUEZ on behalf of Cornwall Council. The new shop expands opportunities for residents to donate unwanted items and purchase quality pre-loved furniture, homeware, books and more at affordable prices.
Since launching in 2024, Kernow Reuse has grown into a county-wide network, helping keep valuable resources in circulation and supporting Cornwall’s transition to a more circular economy. From furniture and homeware to books, toys and tools, thousands of items have found new homes rather than being thrown away.
Rebecca Parry, Reuse Manager at SUEZ, said “Reaching 1,000 tonnes of items saved from disposal while expanding to 10 reuse shops is a fantastic achievement and highlights the growing enthusiasm for reuse across Cornwall. We’re delighted to see more communities embracing reuse and helping drive Cornwall’s circular economy.”
Councillor Loic Rich, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, said “Reaching 1,000 tonnes is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates the positive impact Cornish residents are making every day. Whether donating unwanted items or shopping pre-loved, people are helping reduce waste, save money and support a more sustainable Cornwall.”
