St Blazey community celebrates recycling week

Councillor Pauline Giles was delighted to be able to host a recycling and waste awareness event at the St Blazey Recycle, Reuse, Resale centre on Thursday 26 September 2019.

The community event brought together staff from SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, Clean Cornwall, and Cornwall Council’s waste awareness team to help the community gain an understanding of what can be recycled and how to work together to improve their local environment.

Natalie Chard, Community Liaison Manager for SUEZ, said: “It’s great to work with our partners who all share a passion for making a difference to Cornwall’s environment and reducing waste.”

Cornwall Council’s team were able to provide residents with new recycling bags and were on hand to give advice on home composting, as well as recycling.

Councillor Giles used the event to launch a new neighbourhood litter picking initiative and was grateful to receive a new set of litter pickers and gloves donated by SUEZ, supported by Clean Cornwall, who will have committed to help organise the registration and collection of the waste from local litter picks. Councillor Giles hopes to raise awareness of litter and recycling in St Blazey and aims to drive up recycling rates and improve the local environment.

Anyone interested in registering and organising a local litter pick can contact Councillor Giles via the St Blazey Recycle Reuse Resale CIC Facebook page. Councillor Giles said: “Litter picking is a great opportunity, not just to tidy the area, but to get out, exercise and meet new people” and she would like to hear from anyone in the PL24 area who would like to take part.
