SUEZ and Cornwall Council publish annual report ‘Putting Cornwall’s waste to good use’

SUEZ and Cornwall Council have announced the publication of their annual report for the April 2020 to March 2021 contract year.

The report illustrates the performance of Cornwall’s sustainable waste management through its network of facilities, including 14 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), two Materials Recycling Facilities (MRF) and the Cornwall energy recovery centre. It also highlights the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting adaptation of our educational programmes and social value activities that benefit the local community.

Key highlights during this contract year include:

  • Over 99% of waste diverted from landfill – consistent from the previous year
  • Generated enough energy to power 28,691 homes
  • HWRC recycling rates increased to 47.72%
  • Successful virtual adaptations to our visitor centres at the Bodmin materials recycling facility and Cornwall energy recovery centre, with 24 safe in-person visitations and the launch of online learning materials.
