Sustainability Day with Cornish Pirates
SUEZ has partnered with the Cornish Pirates to deliver a dedicated Sustainability Day, bringing together local schools, community groups and rugby fans to learn about reuse and recycling, and how small actions can protect Cornwall’s natural environment.
The event is part of a six‑week sustainability education programme in schools delivered by the Cornish Pirates. Participating students have explored topics such as waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
Students put their newly learned knowledge into action with a litter pick around the ground on Saturday, with a vote to follow for their designs for a sustainable “team flag”, with the winner being displayed and winning school joining us for a parade at the Worcester game in March!
“We’re proud to work with the Cornish Pirates to give young people a hands‑on, engaging experience that brings sustainability to life,” said Mark Hillson, PFI General Manager at SUEZ. “This initiative helps students understand how everyday actions can make a real difference to our environment”
The event also highlights the role of SUEZ’s visitor centres in supporting education around recycling. SUEZ welcomes school groups to its Bodmin and St Dennis facilities, where students can go behind the scenes to see firsthand the processes used.
Head of Commercial at Cornish Pirates, Ross Hancock, said “As a club deeply rooted in our community, we’re delighted to stand alongside SUEZ in helping young people understand sustainability. The sustainability day event shows how sport, education and environmental responsibility can come together in a powerful way.”
The winning school in the sustainability flag competition will raise their flag at half‑time on the pitch, symbolising a shared commitment to a cleaner, greener Cornwall when the Cornish Pirates take on Worcester Warriors on Saturday 28 March.
