Volunteers Lead the Charge for a Cleaner Cornwall

Ahead of the weeklong Great British Beach Clean campaign organised by the Marine Conservation Society, volunteers from SUEZ collected more than 13 bags of litter from Fistral Beach, helping to protect local wildlife and improve one of Cornwall’s most popular beaches.

The clean-up formed part of SUEZ’s ongoing commitment to protecting Cornwall’s environment and encouraging positive action within local communities. Since 2020, 12 beach cleans have been completed, with over 90 bags collected by over 200 volunteers.

Common items collected included drinks containers, food packaging and cigarette butts, highlighting the ongoing challenge of littering. Among the more unusual finds were traffic cones, lobster cages and even a tent!

Olivia Crisp, Partnership & Community Engagement Manager at SUEZ said “Ahead of the Great British Beach Clean, we wanted to demonstrate how everyone can play a part in protecting Cornwall’s coastline. It was inspiring to see colleagues come together and help keep our beaches clean.”

SUEZ hopes the event will inspire others to get involved in the Marine Conservation Society’s upcoming Great British Beach Clean. By taking part in a local beach clean, residents can help protect Cornwall’s coastline and play their part in keeping the county’s beaches clean for future generations.
