Helping Cornwall to compost at home
During this year’s Compost Awareness week, in early May, Cornwall Council, SUEZ and the Green Waste Company worked together to raise awareness of home composting.
Garden waste deposited at Cornwall Council’s household waste recycling centres, run by SUEZ, is turned into compost by local business, the Green Waste Company, at its site in Higher Brynn.
Visitors to Connon and Truro household waste recycling centres were offered Cornish compost free of charge, kindly donated by the Green Waste Company, with SUEZ staff on hand to help bag up the compost for people to take home to use on their gardens.
Ben Thompson, West Cornwall Operations Manager for SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, said: “It was great to see so many local people taking advantage of the free compost and to have the opportunity to promote the benefits of composting at home.”
Composting is an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into a valuable and nutrient rich food for your garden. It’s easy to make and use.
