Sustainability in action at Cornwall’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)
SUEZ staff across Cornwall’s HWRC sites, which are operated on behalf of Cornwall Council, have been hard at work converting unwanted olive barrels into very useful water butts!
The olive barrels, kindly donated by Olives Et Al, now have a new lease of life as water butts which will be used to water several new wildflower patches at our HWRC sites across Cornwall. This will ensure that our wildflower areas will flourish, encouraging pollinating insects to visit the plants and flowers.
Steph Sáenz, SUEZ Key Account Manager said, “It is fantastic to see how with a bit of collaboration, we were able to push recyclables up the waste hierarchy and re-purpose the barrels as water butts, which will collect rain water and help to promote sustainability across the Cornwall HWRC sites.”
Laura May Shepard, Technical Operations Manager at Olives Et Al said “Olives Et Al are constantly looking for ways to reduce their global footprint so when Suez approached us with this clever idea for repurposing our used olive barrels we were delighted to assist. We hope this marks the beginning of a lasting and expanding partnership.”
Reusing unwanted items is a fantastic way to help the environment. It can be a creative and inexpensive way to live more sustainably and also save money!
