SUEZ supports local school’s Young Carers event
On Wednesday 02 July Poltair School is hosting a Summer Fayre and BBQ for all the Young Carers who attend the Cornwall Educational Learning Trust, primary and secondary schools across Cornwall.
As many as 1 in 5 children and young people are Young Carers in the UK. A Young Carer is someone under the age of 18 who helps to care for a family member, relative or friend. Young people with caring responsibilities have all the challenges of being young, with all the responsibilities of being an adult, and they’re often left to face these alone.
SUEZ recycling and recovery UK were delighted to support the event with supplies for the Summer Fayre and BBQ. Tony Burge, Plant Manager at SUEZ said ‘ Community engagement is so important to us here at SUEZ and we’re delighted to be able to support such a valuable event for these young people in our local area.’
Now in its second year the event has been organised by Claire Harvey, Young Carer Operational Lead at Poltair School and her team who have put together a fun day for over 250 Young Carers from 15 schools within the Cornwall Educational Learning Trust.
‘The aim of this event is to give the Young Carers the opportunity to meet each other and realise they are not alone within the local community. We want to help create a joyful atmosphere where children can enjoy their day, connect with each other, and engage in fun activities.’ said Claire Harvey, Young Carer Operational Lead.
